I just realized that the USA really is, due to the evil neocons and their many delusional psychopath fellow travelers in the Administration and Congress, a vassal state of Israel.
Off topic, but it would appear that the Robert’s Court just drove a stake through the heart of states rights by siding with the Biden crime syndicate against Texas’ attempts to secure the border. Granted I’m not a lawyer and have no legal experience, but this clearly seems to show that protecting the border is not of any concern to the SCOTUS, let alone enforcing the Constitution of the United States. Can’t believe this has happened. Who needs enemies with a court like this knifing us in the back at every turn?
C. J. Roberts & the 3 women + whatever K. BJ is, have set up a golden opportunity for Texas to assert the power to repel the ongoing invasion. Do I expect Abbott to actually stand up and do anything except facilitate the aliens' travel plans, the answer is NO. TEXAS SECEDE !!!!!
Paxton is without a doubt an excellent litigator, courts will not save us. Abbott is an excellent procrastinator, has been Governor for 8 years and he until recently has done very little about border issues.
Yes, nullification has worked in the past, such as when the free states ignored the Fugitive Slave Act. Texas should ignore the SC order, and begin alien removal operations forthwith, if the feds interfere, arrest them.
And here I thought its job was to interpret the law in light of its fidelity and adherence to the Constitution of the United States!
Silly me. But, having said that, I have to say that it’s what I expect from Roberts, especially after the contortions he went through to validate Obamacare. That is what worries me most about the DJT cases that will require SCOTUS judgements, don’t trust Roberts as far as I can throw him.
There was no need for a Constitutional amendment to outlaw alcohol--many local communities did it on their own. The 18th established a uniform, nationwide ban. Whether or not anyone agrees with the regulation of dangerous substances, there is no doubt that such regulation is a recognized government authority under our Constitution. Same goes for dope, whether you like it or not. Here on this forum I have the authority to ban/prohibit dopes who continually advocate for drug legalization, despite the manifest harm that it's doing to the country.
Given the West executed regime change in Iran twice before and the current funding of insurgents and the attempted colour revolution I wonder if the West is working on the (presumably faulty) premise that they can topple the current regime.
I've always been fascinated by the topic of psychopathy. Netanyahu is an interesting case. He's like Z on steroids. This is a man who will willingly risk an regional or even larger war just to stay in power a bit longer. If that's not a definition of a psychopath, I don't know what is.
Sharon was the one who allowed for non-Israeli control of the Gaza Strip. He apparently saw it (Hamas-run) as an entity that Israel could live with for the long-term.
The raid was personally led by future Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon,
An official enquiry found that he bore "personal responsibility" for the Sabra and Shatila massacre of Palestinian refugees, for which he became known as the "Butcher of Beirut" among Arabs. He was subsequently removhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabra_and_Shatila_massacreed as defense minister.
Random musings. In some ways this current involvement of The West involvement in the Middle East is just an extension of The Crusades. "Free the Holy Land and Jerusalem from the Infidel" The Saracens were the Arabs of the region at the time. One could posit that Israel has taken the place of the Latin Kingdom (the muses of history have an ironic sense of humor) and the' infidel/Saracens' remain those we now call Palestinians.
As in the 12th century as in the 21st, it is about control of land and resources. Religion just makes a rallying cry for the masses. Think Vézelay
As i said this was just a thought/analogy that occurred to me, and I thought I would share it.
HL, I’m sure you’re familiar with the great classic by the American historian Charles Homer Haskins, “The Renaissance of the Twelfth Century” as you mention Vézelay and the 12 th century. A fantastic book, so illuminating and refreshing of a period mostly lumped in with the “Middle Ages.” Crusades are discussed also!
Its like a runaway train. Or the stagecoach with out-of-control horses in the old westerns.
I read recently and i apologize for being unable to cite the exact source, that Russia has made the determination and declaration that it will be flying sorties along the border of Syria and the Golan Heights. That adds another serious cat among the flustered pigeons.
We most certainly live in interesting times
Could someone point to me a good book on the history of Palestine, prior to the Balfour Declaration and WWI? TIA
I was hoping you'd get some recommendation! Lacking that, I've uploaded a selection from the 1946 Encyclopaedia Britannica entry that I found helpful to add context. You can find the 1911 edition online pretty easily.

I was hoping Abbot would be the guy.
What’s your take on Paxton, all hat and no cattle, or is there something there?
Paxton is without a doubt an excellent litigator, courts will not save us. Abbott is an excellent procrastinator, has been Governor for 8 years and he until recently has done very little about border issues.

This is all predicated on some politician having grit enough to push back and say, “Come and take it!”.
As Mark Twain once remarked, “ We appear to be in a profound state of poverty where such individuals are concerned.”

Hope I’m wrong, just not holding my breath.

Sharon. Talking of psychopaths...
But at least he was a warrior. Netanyahu left active military service over 50 years ago.
Some warrior:
Sharon became an instrumental figure in the creation of Unit 101 and the reprisal operations

including the 1953 Qibya massacre
