Today’s a day for yardwork, but I’m taking a lunch break and I’ll try to point to some good links to important stories. Thanks for reading Meaning In History!
On the Ukr front - our Defence Minister has announced that Britain is sending the UA our long range missiles (Shadow something or other). He assured Parliament that the Ukronazis have pinky sworn they won't be using said missiles to strike targets inside Russia. Russia has said they will react accordingly.
I'm waiting to see what develops. I'm watching twitter posting and it there are claims of activity over a vast expanse of territory. That just doesn't seem truly possible.
Rousseau's 'Confessions' are well worth reading, as they reveal a truly despicable human being who bit all the numerous hands that fed him. Preaching the 'noble savage' he demonstrated all the worst qualities of a self-indulgent human being. For those of us who prize humanism and have been fortunate in our family life there is no way we are going over the cliff. We have values, religion and satisfactions the hedonists cannot even imagine.
Today was but another of endless examples of how the MSM picks sides - always the democrat's side. Eventually their noses will be led by a halter to the Biden feedbag of corruption. I can only imagine what Trump will say tonight in his CNN townhall about these latest developments. It is tonight, right?
The Bidens. The Bidens. All Washington, very sensitive to all of Trump's dealings, of course hadn't a clue as to what Joe was doing. Yeah, sure! Now there's a bridge here in Brooklyn I could sell you....
Yep, it's been ignored for a long time. Now, they've got the means to compel the evidence. And the Chinese institutions are cooperating, as I understand it.
"Classical liberalism has some positive points, but ends up missing the big picture."
Yes, this is what results from all overly simplistic worldviews. In fact, both socialism (in its various forms) and liberalism (of both Right and Left) have their origins in the Enlightenment. It's not a coincidence that they end up with similar results.
Pointing fingers at no one, least of all our MIH author, any worldview that doesn’t have as its highest priority an all out effort to fight and defeat the fierce and ongoing existential attack on all that is good in the world is, or at least should be, a non-starter for any liberty loving individual.
You're right. Freedom makes no sense in less it's freedom FOR something--the ability to arrive at a correct understanding of reality and make choices in tune with that correct understanding.
I was trying to find a review of Patrick Deneen's book, "Liberalism: The God That Failed", to share with Castelletto as a starting point and I turned up a critical review of it, "Why Liberalism's Critics Fail" by Deirdre Nansen McCloskey, "professor emerita of economics, history, English, and communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago", a man suffering from autogynephilia.
Elon Musk announces Twitter will welcome new female CEO in June
Hmmm. Ginny Thomas?
LOL. Too funny.

I saw that on Twitter this morning. I'd say that Britain is heading out onto some pretty thin ice.
We are. Also - R T have just had a breaking headline "Ukraine uses chemical weapons"
Nothing more at the moment ...
That's been reported before, but I'm not sure that Russian media has reported it in a high profile way.
Very next breaking headline on RT - Ukraine starts counter offensive - something is happening.

Masno
@NovichokRossiya
Russian MOD reports no major Ukrainian offensive, just ongoing battles.
Maybe they got them from those labs the US has had in Ukraine.
I should have said "skating" out onto some pretty thin ice.

Take a look at this Nov 3, 2020 article on the CEFC scheme described today in (IMO) less detail. https://www.theamericanconservative.com/exclusive-how-the-bidens-made-off-with-millions-in-chinese-cash/

Where does Comrade Xi fit into this?
Did influence peddling go to the very top?
The FBI is not cooperating, as I understand it.
I'm not predicting. Just saying that I won't be surprised if Congress ramps up pressure.
The FBI won't be able to leverage a positive public image against Congress this time around.

Whatever the label, that should be the purpose.
I can recommend a good post on this topic I read last year: https://open.substack.com/pub/meaninginhistory/p/libertarians-are-not-our-friends
