This week Joe Manchin announced that he won’t be running for reelection to the US Senate, but was “tight lipped” about future plans. By all accounts, including this one from the NYPost, Manchin was facing an extremely tough challenge for reelection:
How Joe Manchin may cause ‘mischief’ with 2024 White House run
A run for the presidency as a Dem is a longshot at this point—assuming that Zhou isn’t forced out. Being in the wings would work, but only if Manchin gets in the public eye and stays there. Running as an independent? Only with major backing.
I recall that Tom Luongo has maintained that two Dem senators were colluding—I think that’s the right word—with the NY Big Money Guys, people like Jamie Dimon, against the Dem orthodoxy of destroying the economy, especially through the “climate change” agenda: Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Would Big Money support Manchin in a bid for the presidency, in the face of a seemingly collapsing Zhou regime, and unacceptable RFK (climate warrior extreme), and a weak and unacceptably woke looking Newsom?
Dimon has in the past declared both Trump and Biden as “not the way forward”. Dimon’s way forward has been enunciated in a number of interviews that came off sounding almost like stump speeches. The core of Dimon’s platform boils down to something like this:
Drill. And drill some more. Enough already with woke corporate governance.
Financial accountability in DC.
No war with China.
No doubt there’s more, but that all seems pretty core. I suspect Manchin is the one Dem, and maybe the only GOPer not named Trump with some name recognition, who could be whole heartedly on board with that. Goldman Sachs also seems on board, as also Jay “close the f*cking door” Powell. It would hardly be surprising to learn that Big Money is looking to put their guy in the White House, and not liking the field so far.
This is obviously speculative, but stranger things have certainly happened. Like Election 2020. So, something to keep an eye on.
The NYPost article cites Manchin's ties to No Labels, a dark money outfit tied to Little Mikey Bloomberg and such like. That looks like a losing proposition. Lots of money, but we saw how far Bloomberg got. Manchin's not Bloomberg, but he'd have to show some more attractive backing than that.

I think Manchin is looking for a Grift before he retires to be a DC Lobbyist Extraordinnaire.
