It’s too early to state with anything like certainty the nature of this missile, nor the implications. Some sources are describing the missile as a Hatem 2, which is a version of the Iranian Kheibar Shaken. As far as implications go, it’s possible that this was an escalation of the type of “demonstration” strike that Iran launched back in April, only without the advance notice and from another country. The idea would be to demonstrate to Israelis just how vulnerable they are to attacks by ballistic missiles, which are far more powerful than the typical rockets and cruise missiles used in the past.
Here we’ll briefly report what’s known at this point. Some of the links will have video that can’t be embedded but, as noted below, the videos that are circulating are likely of impacts by failed interceptor missiles, not the actual strike missile:

High chances Israeli military censor immediately banned reports on the event.

BREAKING:
Yemen hit Tel Aviv with a missile
About 3 hours ago, at approximately 6:30 AM (GMT +3:00), a ballistic missile launched by Yemen's Houthis impacted in Tel Aviv.
The target appeared to be the 'Gezer' power plant, 6 kilometers from Ben Gurion airport.
The missile reportedly traveled 1,800 kilometers in 15 minutes, with all interception attempts failing.
Israeli media reports that around 2 million Israelis sought shelter. The extent of damage and the specific type of missile used remain unknown. Ansarullah is expected to release a statement soon.

What’s amazing is the missile is solid fueled and truck based, and has the maneuverability warhead (to avoid anti missiles).
In the first Iraq war Iraq fired scud missiles which are liquid fueled. Liquid fueled missiles need to be fueled before launch. And even those the U.S. had limited success in hunting down. Solid fueled missiles don’t need to be immediately fueled prior to launch.
The Iranians have been steadily improving their missile technology.
And this missile does not represent the cutting edge missile technology the Russians and Chinese have that is more a true hypersonic missile, that the U.S. does not have. And even this lower level of technology Israel and the West did not intercept.
This action is a tit for tat going on between the Iranians and Israeli’s, using the Houthis as a cats paw. Perhaps for the Israeli assassination in Iran, while not upsetting / inconveniencing China and Russia. While Russia improves the Iranian air defenses to reduce Israeli retaliatory ability.
Or perhaps this is a indirect message to the U.S. from Russia, just think what true Russian hypersonic missiles could do.
Russia could end all these wars tomorrow. Give Lebanon nukes.
Lebanon would say: Play nice chosen ones or else.
