Who are those people in large Blue cities who vote for more crime, more illegals, more drug use, and more general craziness? I wish I could tell you, but while pondering that question Block Club Chicago—a generally quite liberal outlet—has a rather fascinating article to factor into your speculations:

The overwhelming racism of the Black Vote is a huge issue, and it benefits the Democratic Party resulting in far left Black candidates being elected / winning in Blue Cities. Often incompetent and corrupt.
Huge potential wedge issues are School choice, jobs (immigration), and crime. All anathema to the Democrats, like Garlic to Vampires.
The Dems have successfully sold them a ton of rhetorical snake oil, playing into their fears and resentments. What's hard to figure is that so few have caught on to the clear fact that Dem policies have caused incalculable harm to their community.
"[Bleep]ing well-meaning while liberals!"--the constant lament of my college buddy who returned to his native Chicago after college and law school a few decades ago to found a technology company aimed at serving the African American community in which he grew up, particularly in educational applications. A hardwired (but old-school black Chicago) Democrat active in local politics, he feels that well-meaning white liberals swoop in on projects, dominate the discussion with impractical ideas, and leave things half-assed and unaccountable once they've gotten their "I'm a good person" dopamine fix. After a series of debacles like the Evanston mortgage reparations program that left African Americans renting from "non-BIPOC" (their term, not mine) owners who, after the inevitable defaults, repossessed their homes for pennies on the dollar, my buddy has now officially stripped "well-meaning" from his description, as something more nefarious seems afoot.

My sympathy for your buddy is strictly limited, as it appears he wants to make his money selling to government schools--the problem, not the solution for Blacks.
My buddy sells his tech to business clients at market rates, which subsidizes much of the at-cost educational offerings he makes to local schools. He's an honest guy looking to give back.
I am no longer surprised, but the question is why?? Why do these largely white voting group vote for the same policies that threaten their daily security, erode their standard of living and lead to other forms of discrimination in the workplace (promotions, reviews etc)??? I know these people! Family and friends! They are the same ones to plaster their faces with masks in T Joe’s, heaving huge sighs of (feigned?) regret. Why do they vote for mayhem and lawlessness all the while lecturing, haranguing and even insulting others? I’m trying to understand…it must have something to do with the fact that a lot of these people have no children, are not a member of a large family and are simply doing the bidding of the Nanny/Deep State…they’re alone in the deepest sense (never mind that a few attend church regularly) and the virus offers them the opportunity to demonstrate their civic goodness…I’m open to others’ thoughts!!
IMO it is due to the education system these young white liberals are exposed too. It's all over here in Chicago/North suburbs where I live. All social justice warriors. My local school district just funded an increase in foreign languages from 11 to 14. Why? Because the 1%er's have to be "heard". They need to be recognized as having been "marginalized". It all starts with education..
Yeah, to isolate it further, I theenk it's Heather MacDonald who posits that the most reliable hard core Democrat voting bloc is the unmarried white college-educated woman. And there you have it.
And recent studies have shown these are the women who spend a vast amount of time on social media, are extremely neurotic and mentally ill, in other words they represent the most unhinged element of the neo-Puritan Democratic party.
And right in our back yard Mark. Fascinating. My wife has multiple family members in the city. I’m pretty sure none of them voted for Johnson. Age ranges 35-75. Wondering if the younger white population mainly liberals carried the day for Johnson. Wouldn’t be surprised.
Also many of my family members aligned Vallas as pseudo Republican so maybe some might have voted Johnson. Messed up.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this point. Lots of cheaper, safer places to live, and many people own so many possessions that letting go of the excess makes for a much easier move.
If the economy continues to worsen, drugs and crime will keep escalating, and social unrest is going to spread throughout Chicago. In fact, I'm not sure any urban areas are going to be safe when the SHTF.
Awareness that 61% of White population voting installing the pro-crime mayor versus 57% of Bl/Hisp/Asian (in a close election as I recall) should stir and motivate the 'minority' voters, one would think. I'll bet the Zuckerberg model 'get out the dem vote' was not used in Chicago as apparently there's enough white dems willing to screw-over the majority of minorities. A strange outcome when viewed with Mark's presentation here. Like "Virus' will Virus", apparently Blue Cities will continue to degenerate. Hispanics - 54% of a 20% turnout isn't any kind of game changer.
Blacks - yes, 88% is shocking on the surface, but that's from a "shockingly low" turnout of 29%. The fact that 71% of Black RVs didn't bother to turn out to vote for a Black man in a close race is what's so shocking.
Whites - White turnout was far, far higher, so 34% of that much higher turnout going for Johnson was the real game changer.
