I know “the right side of history” is a goofy leftist trope—as if “history” were an entity, an organism of some sort, a knowable whole—but you do have to wonder what a future generation will think about what America has been doing to the world. I’ll let readers decide when we started downhill, who—or what ideologies—was/were responsible, and so forth. Interestingly, some GOPers are adopting that trope—leftist readers take note!
Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly dropped to his knees in prayer for guidance on how to handle the Ukraine matter. Always fascinating when the voice of God becomes interchangeable with the voice of the National Security State
This is a series of snapshots of where we are, in no particular order:

Can Americans somehow divest the Deep State?

JUST IN: US House Speaker Johnson says that China's president Xi Jinping, Russia's Putin and Iran are truly the axis of evil
Interesting experiment. Count the military bases the US has around the world and compare that number to the number of Russiann and Chinese and Iranian bases outside their borders—combined. Hmmm. Our total number is shrinking—some people are catching on. Russia will be moving in to the base in Niger:
Biden To Withdraw Troops From Niger As Region Increasingly Turns To Russia
In what is simultaneously a humiliating setback for the Deep State and a welcome victory for noninterventionist American taxpayers, the White House on Friday announced that US military forces will be withdrawn from Niger over the coming months. The move comes after Niger's mid-March declaration that was ending its military cooperation with the United States.
Following Niger's announcement, US military officials scrambled in vain to salvage the relationship. At stake: The $110 million Air Base 201, which the New York Times characterized as the Pentagon's "most strategic military asset in sub-Saharan Africa." Said to be a key base for counterterrorism, it was a major hub for drone operations in the region.
Yes, little Mikey Johnson is a POS, but he’s not alone. In fairness, 100% of Dems (more fairness: I think 3 Dems voted “present”) voted for more and more war. Less than half—still way too many—GOPers did that. If you’re interested in some names to go with the numbers, the link is for you:
Only 21 members of Congress out of 431 voted NO on both Ukraine AND Israel funding yesterday. They are:

The following members of Congress voted NO yesterday on $61 billion for Ukraine, but YES on $24 billion for Israel -- just in case you were under the mistaken impression that they had any principled objection to dumping billions of US tax dollars into foreign war zones:

Would be fascinating to hear @RoKhanna @AOC @IlhanMN @RashidaTlaib @GregCasar @RepMarkPocan @MaxwellFrostFL and other self-proclaimed Progressive Dems explain why they all just voted in complete uncritical unison to dump another $61 billion worth of war funding into Ukraine --

Now, I don’t necessarily agree with everything Michael Tracey is saying. Is Johnson really so much smarter than Speaker Kev was/is? I don’t think so for a moment. It just goes to show the power of the Uniparty and the people behind it. OTOH, his claims about Trump’s role in all this are very disturbing but, IMO, probably correct.
Should also add: from the standpoint of raw Machiavellian political maneuvering, that was masterful work by Mike Johnson. The net-result of ousting Kevin McCarthy was they replaced him with someone much smarter and better adept at executing complex legislative tasks

Mission Accomplished. It is done: Donald Trump and the House GOP just completed one of the most epic swindles in political history, with Trump personally effectuating the largest-ever dispersement of Ukraine funding through his emissary, "MAGA Mike Johnson" (as Trump lovingly
Ouch, ouch, ouch!
Did I say little Mikey Johnson is a POS?

Speaker Mike Johnson, on NEWSMAX promoting his war funding bill: "For those of us who are believers, it's a Biblical admonition to stand with Israel"
Can you spell “cynicism”? Genocide—it’s a ‘biblical’ admonition! Anyone interested in my views on biblicism can check out the links at the top of the Home Page. In the meantime, here’s I guy who is worth listening to (if you follow the link), Hajo Meyer:
Megatron @Megatron_ron
Beautiful words by tattooed Auschwitz survivor Hajo Meyer (RIP):
“I saw in Auschwitz that if a dominant group wants to dehumanise others, so as the Nazis wanted to dehumanise me, then this dominant group must first be dehumanised in a way themselves by diminishing their empathy through propaganda and indoctrination - in order to be able to be as cruel as some were.
The same holds nowadays for Israel. I am appalled about how hateful, how dehumanised that they do not see any human aspect in any Palestinian anymore, it’s terrible.
The Zionists have not any right whatsoever to use the Holocaust for any purpose. They have given up everything which has to do with humanity, with empathy - for one thing: the state, the blood and the soil, just like the Nazis.
I learned at school about blood and soil, and that’s exactly their idea too - and humans do not play a role.
Judaism as I learned it is highly, highly ethical, and so you can not connect Zionism with highly ethical. You can only connect the words ‘aggressive,’ ‘oppressive,’ ‘stealing’ and ‘robing’ with Zionism, but not highly ethical.
Zionism and Judaism are contrary to each other because Judaism is universal and humane, and Zionism is exactly the opposite: it is very narrow, very nationalistic, racist, colonialist, all this. There is no national Judaism, there is Zionism, and there is Judaism.”

Now, to be clear, this is one man’s version of Judaism. That’s a long discussion and a topic concerning which many Jews have conflicting views. Zhou and Pelosi claim to be Catholic—something I deny. But who am I? The guys in the fancy robes seem to think they’re Catholic—and they also claim that they’re Catholic. No, I’m not a relativist. Again, check my archives. All I’ll say regarding Hajo Meyer is that if you think little Mikey Johnson is imparting wisdom about standing with Israel, you need to spend some time thinking about Hajo Meyer’s views. And the same goes for those voting to kill more Ukrainians.
From Johnson's quote on Newsmax, "For those of us who are believers, it's a Biblical admonition to stand with Israel", it seems he is saying that based on his beliefs, he had no choice but to fund Israel. That seems to be the logic of a follower, not a leader.
Well, if the God Johnson is praying to told him to fund continued death & destruction in Ukraine and a genocide in Israel, sounds like he prays to a false idol. I personally do not view any of the people in Washington as moral, principled or possessing any shred of human compassion, empathy or decency. Bad people make bad decisions. It wasn't really that surprising to see them all stand up and wave Ukrainian flags and chant "Ukraine!!" after the bill was passed.
