It’s a source of deep frustration to me that Mitch McConnell, having faced down most of the DC Establishment by denying a seat on the SCOTUS to the egregious Merrick Garland, failed to understand what Donald Trump did for McConnell’s judicial agenda. It’s true that McConnell did yeoman work in holding a narrow GOP majority together and confirming three Trump nominees. But it also remains true—for anyone with eyes to see—that, despite his famous stand, McConnell would never have had the chance to get those confirmations through BUT FOR Trump. IMO, only Trump could have pulled off the 2016 win. You would think that career politicians in the GOP would have understood that, at least in hindsight, and realized who got them where they found themselves. But no. Maybe they’ll get another chance after the Midterms, with a majority that Trump will have done much to put in place.
The Administrative state is really now another branch, and therefore UNConstitutional. Pare it back to necessary departments under the Executive’s direct control.
Maybe, if things go the right way at the SC, the regulatory framework will be along the following lines.
Administrative agencies (that remain in existence because they are necessary) will only enact regulations that implement statutory law, said reg's would be initiated by order of the chief executive of the agency when authorized by the president, governor etc. Regulations would never apply to natural persons or religious organizations, only applied to the government's agencies and corporate entities chartered by the government. Maybe then the anti-trust laws will actually be applied to the medical industry, instead of the collusive regime that exists now being ignored, or worse encouraged.
The obvious reason is we are not speaking historically. Readers of this website are aware of schemes for a new world order, Davos and other efforts to 'reform' our political system. My impression is that the politicians and the media are simply doing what they are told to do by those who pay their bills, and it ain't us.
eGOP does appear to get funding from big business, including globalists companies. And these also pay the lobbyists that so many politicians (Paul Ryan) retire too, as well as so called conservative think tanks (heritage).
And big business is more interested in rent seeking situations as well as other ways to increase their profits.
And none of them want to rock the boat. They are anti change / risk.
And there is a fear of cancellation.
As well as a class issue.
And big agriculture was anti wall. They like cheap labor.
And then Trumps comes along, and starts doing things. What a change from endless excuses.
I can only imagine that it's hatred for an outsider and self made man. There was no reason in the world not to do a deal with him, instead of setting out to destroy him.
McConnell and his diminishing coterie in the senate may never get past their enmity and bitterness toward Trump who proved that campaign promises mean something, and last long after the campaign ends. Still, if Trump runs again and wins, he knows the Republicans he can trust - and who he cannot. Schmitt and Hawley from Missouri will not be McConnell bots, as well as most of the other newly elected senators the past few elections. These not-McConnell senators may be quite vocal and influential in shaping the future of the GOP, and eventually will lead it in my view.
McConnell refused to put money into Don Bolduc's senate campaign in New Hampshire and now he might be edging ahead of slimy incumbent Maggie Hassan. If Bolduc wins he would not only owe nothing to Cocaine Mitch. He'd have a legitimate ax to grind against him.
The longer they stay in the senate the more likely they are to be corrupted. Mark Twain called it 100+ years ago when he said, "Politicians, like diapers, should be changed often . . and for the same reason."

Thanks Mark - this is another concise, high quality analysis of an important issue. You are becoming one of my favourite Substacks!

Off Topic - Mark, check out this article about an idea to really clean out the Aegean stables by Trevor Loudon:

Very interesting ideas. I think you could be involved if this would ever actually happen.
Why is McConnell so anti Trump, along with the rest of the eGOP?
Why did the Democrats go scorched earth on Trump?
Trump politics are very much middle of the road, historically speaking.
What Trump did was rip the masks off a lot of a lot of hypocrisy, and show those that talked a big game especially at election time, but did nothing.
You stole my question! Why do most of the previously Constitutional patriots hate him? It wasn’t normal, the way they turned. Those Never-Trumpers.

Red wave incoming!!!

My belief, too.
