A Thickening Plot: Open Convention v. Quickie Nomination v. You Raciss!

This morning I mentioned what everyone knows: The Dems would very much like to replace Zhou with Gretchen Whitmer—the Wicked Witch of the North, or something like that. But finessing anything of the sort is wildly complicated. Life’s too short too spend much time trying to grok the ins and outs of Dem convention rules, but trust me on this: a switcheroo involves delegate pledges, a candidate, and MONEY—lots of moving parts. At the heart of it all, of course, is Kama Sutra. If she were remotely acceptable the problems wouldn’t be half as bad as they are. And the even bigger problem is—she is reported to believe that she really is an acceptable option, so isn’t inclined to make any end run around her easy.

Now comes Barry Obama, according to Tucker Carlson:

From an unusually good source: Obama’s tweet supporting Joe Biden was disingenuous. In private, Obama is telling people Biden can’t win, and he is therefore in favor of an open convention.

Oh. My. God. An open convention has to be every power broker’s nightmare.

Obama will not say whom he supports, nor as of yesterday afternoon had he met personally with Biden to deliver the message. Relations between the Obamas and the Bidens have never been warm. At times they’ve been hostile. But recently they’ve deteriorated further, mostly due to Jill Biden.

In the hours and days after the debate, she kept her husband cloistered away from anyone who might convince him to drop out.

Jill Biden is the driving force behind her husband’s reelection campaign, just as she was in 2020, when other members of the family (including Biden’s sister Val) considered him too impaired to run. The next generation of potential Democratic candidates understands all this as an opportunity and they’re circling, particularly Gretchen Whitmer, who is promoting herself aggressively.

Everyone knows that an open convention would bring the craziest of the crazies in the Dem party to center stage, because that’s the way the delegate selection is weighted. That’s why the DNC had to fix the primaries. And nobody knows that better than The Israel Lobby, which has already invested a ton—maybe more—of money in Zhou. Every poll shows that the most rabidly anti-genocide demographic in the country are self identified Dems. You think Dems are in panic mode now? You ain’t seen nothing compared to the panic in the donor class that would attend an open convention. Imagine the platform that could come out of that hot mess!

The Dem power brokers have not been slow to react to that threat:

Wow! Nothing says panic like a rush to a quickie nomination of a candidate who just crashed and burned on live TV. Try to tell those people an open convention would be a cool idea!

And then there’s Donna Brazile having her say:

“How the f*** are you going to put all these white people ahead of Kamala?”

Don’t you just hate it when they use all those asterisks? It makes it so hard to figure out what’s really being said.

The article goes on to provide a weather forecast for the Dem convention: Category 5 Hurricane:

More than two dozen top Democratic officials, political operatives and donors tied to Biden and to many of the people most discussed as potential substitutes – many of whom asked for anonymity to discuss the most politically fraught situation most have ever encountered – say they’re terrified by nearly every scenario: Going forward with Biden, a Kamala Harris nomination, a nomination of someone else who would in that case have beaten the first Black female vice president, long nights of multiple ballots spilling ideological and personal feuds on national television, even just revelations of embarrassing details about people who have never been vetted by a national campaign.

“It would be a Category 5 hurricane,” said one top Democratic official nervous about Biden considering what would happen if the president stepped aside. “People don’t understand the sheer destruction that would be unleashed.”

Hey, here’s another idea. Instead of doing a virtual nomination, why not have the whole thing on site as planned in … Chicago. We could have a full blown war in one of several places around the world by then. And then there’s Chicago today. What could possibly go wrong? Just about everything.
