More likely, the Ukrainians made a calculation that a Russian invasion would result in a humanitarian crisis that would force NATO intervention. Remember that the US had supported a coup in Ukraine and had impeached a President for being insufficiently enthusiastic about America's commitment to Ukraine. If the UKR had a sense of their own importance, there was a reason.
Part of this calculation may have had to do with what, exactly, the Russians might be expected to find if they took Ukraine. What, exactly, was going on in these labs? I don't think the UKR seriously expected to defeat the Russian army, but they expected that at the end of the day the US would ride to their rescue, possibly bringing NATO with them.
I agree it is amazing however; if you consider the agenda of the elites who desperately need to eliminate the 20% excess labor force that they consider redundant and taking up space in their world not to mention consuming scarce resources that are not meant for the deplorables. A ware can do the trick very well. /sarc
I have read some of the Archbishop's writings recently. His knowledge of history ,writing style and the well documented sources are amazing. I sincerely hope he is well protected.
His a much needed, articulate and reasoned voice in this maelstrom
Totally OT, I know, but how on earth can it be constitutional to outlaw a political party's being able to choose its nominees with votes from only its actual members? If I form a political party and want its nominees to be chosen only by our own party members, many states make that illegal. This is NOT a small problem, as should be made clear by this John Fund piece
The whole piece needs to be read to appreciate the seriousness of this issue (well outside of how it may affect Donald Trump and his chosen candidates), but here's just one small part [begin quote]:
A similar dynamic could save Representative Liz Cheney, a vocal Trump critic, who faces several challengers in her August primary in Wyoming. The Trump-backed choice is Harriet Hageman, a land-use attorney and former candidate for governor.
But Hageman backers had been hoping that the Wyoming legislature would pass a bill this month barring both independents and Democrats from crossing party lines and changing their party registration on the day of the primary. Trump publicly endorsed the bill, but last week the state house rejected it, declining to follow the state senate’s lead. It failed even though 51 of Wyoming’s 60 house members are Republicans.
Crossover voting may well have influenced the outcome of the 2018 GOP primary for Wyoming governor. The three leading candidates were Hageman, major Trump donor Foster Friess, and Mark Gordon, the state treasurer. Gordon won the primary with only 33 percent of the vote, besting Friess, who won 26 percent of the vote.
It’s unlikely that the 10,000 voters who switched affiliations to vote in the GOP primary that year swayed the outcome, but the situation could change in the case of Cheney’s primary this year. No Democrats have filed to run against her, so many of them may be tempted to cast a proxy vote against Trump by backing Cheney. For all of her unpopularity with grassroots Trump activists in Wyoming, Cheney has more than enough money to get her message out. Former president George W. Bush and former House speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan have all helped her raise money.
[end quote]
The part about Bush, Boehner and Ryan backing Cheney is just piss-flavored icing on this unconstitutional, poop-flavored cake.
Thanks for the summary--and for saving me clicking on NRO (may bankruptcy be unto them). In the end, the GOP grass roots has to solve this problem. If they get snookered by a leftwing "Operation Chaos" or an Murkowski-like write in campaign, it just means that the grassroots effort was ineffective. I'm a precinct committeeman and the RINOs are quite resourceful in devising schemes to subvert the will of the base / party foot soldiers in my state. They are not going to succeed, but they're also not going to go quietly. Dems and RINOs (but I repeat myself) lie, cheat, and steal. At this point nobody gets to say that they didn't see it coming.
Thanks Brad, shitty yes, but doesn't worry me in the least, just the uniparty showing it's face. If or where they attempt to nominate / elect "Republican" officeholders with democrat votes it will hasten the realization. They already hold pretty much unfettered power, removing the likes of Liz Cheney was always going to take a measure of popular activism, at least now we all can see clearly what needs to be done.
Why would Wicker of Mississippi want to start WW3? Because he needs to show the military that he'll be their obedient tool:
Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi, a likely candidate to become the next ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, was also quick to call for “a strong coalition of like-minded nations” to “step in and seriously consider” a no-fly zone.
Listened to the first 25 or so... Crooke is SO insightful as regards the war behind the war from a Russian perspective. The conclusion of that being that the Russians truly view the conflict in the Ukraine as existential for them as a nation and as a civilization and as a spiritual rather than a secular people.
How things have turned around! Who would have thought Russia would be fighting against the West to preserve the principles and beliefs that were foundational to the West for two millennia? Thanks for the link!
A simpleton's view - So, if I see things correctly the US govt, et al are hoping to squeeze Putin by getting Ukraine into NATO. Is that correct? Putin, the nationalist that he is, sprinkled with a bit of grandiosity and a touch of megalomania, will not allow this. He cuddles up to China and the rest of the little "axis of evil" and before we know it things really start to get hot. Am I being too paranoid when I wonder if we're one spin of the wheel from this getting seriously out of control?
Back in 2017 I read Harari’s thoroughly disappointing book, Sapiens. After the first few chapters it became clear that Harari views mankind as glorified machines that are best explained by materialism. In his view, culture, religion, and ethics are basically fictional--or mythical at best. So, where does this leave us as pertains to the future? How are we supposed to frame and shape our world? Are we really not thinking and feeling creatures with free will? Nihilists and techno-tyrants will love this apology for their dead end philosophy. The embedded video only reinforces the disdain I had for his dystopian views after reading his book.
I remember the first few chapters had promise, but things quickly went downhill from there…I believe I chucked it somewhere - unfortunately I’ve seen that the author has gone on to publish more such deconstrctive nonsense…cheers though, I couldn’t agree with you more…

Ukraine seeing war as helpful explains a lot.
Russia is claiming Ukrainian provocations in Donbas predating the invasion, and even now shelling.
Plus many of the Foreign volunteers predate the invasion.
More likely, the Ukrainians made a calculation that a Russian invasion would result in a humanitarian crisis that would force NATO intervention. Remember that the US had supported a coup in Ukraine and had impeached a President for being insufficiently enthusiastic about America's commitment to Ukraine. I’m amazed at the us elite drumbeat for war. It’s at a hysterical level.

Amen to that. Only when I sense it’s worth the tradeoff do I go there, and this was one of those times.
Great comments, btw - totally agree.

Yes indeed!
Actually, I enjoyed the entire talk. Thank you for posting it.
