Why Now?

The FBI on Wednesday released new footage of the suspect who placed pipe bombs at the DNC and RNC headquarters in DC on January 5. The FBI is asking the public for help identifying the suspect.

Conspiracy theories are welcome--in the circumstances, conspiracy theory seems to be the only way to explain this belated appeal to the public.

Oh, wait--maybe this was newly discovered video footage?

Color me flummoxed. But I’ll take a stab at a theory. When the FBI announced a few weeks ago that, hey, there never was an insurrection on January 6, I floated the idea that what had changed wasn’t the FBI’s knowledge of what went down on J6. Rather, someone at the FBI--Chris Wray, making an executive level decision, the type he gets paid for--had sensed that the political winds had shifted and would likely continue their shift right up to and through Election 2022. Time to realign.
