Yesterday I noted signs that the GOP is looking for ways to distance itself from forever war, and especially against Russia. The new talking point of “Deal with America’s problems first” was a clear indication that something was afoot. I also noted that even Lindsey! has toned down the war mongering. It appears that this is part of a concerted effort to get out front on this issue. Red State reports, expanding on a Politico article:
GOP Senators Change Tack, Start Advocating Peace Agreement in Ukraine
This looks like a major development, coinciding with Turtle announcing his pending resignation and Speaker Mike Johnson’s apparent rejection yesterday of Zhou Chuckie Turtle’s attempts to buffalo him into more Ukraine spending. Excerpts:
A growing number of Republican Senators are moving toward the position of supporting a peace agreement in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
…
… Among them is Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who also serves as the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
"The reality at this point that we have to confront is that that war ends with a negotiated settlement," said Rubio. "And the question is …, who [will have] more leverage — [Russian President Vladimir] Putin or Ukraine?”
Other Senators, including JD Vance of Ohio and Mike Braun of Indiana, have also expressed a view that there is no obvious path to victory for Ukrainian forces and that a negotiated settlement may be in the best interest of both sides.
The best interest of both sides? Does that mean what it seems to say—that the US is ready to recognize Russia’s interests? That’s a very interesting turn of phrase.
Even South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who is widely considered the most hawkish member of the Senate, recently pulled back from the idea of unconditional aid to Ukraine, instead siding with Donald Trump's idea to provide it as a loan.
Obviously these senators are engaged in verbal positioning—they’re not truly leveling with the American people about what’s really behind our war on Russia. They’re still talking about a war between Ukraine and Russia, whereas we know it’s a war of America on Russia. What’s clear is that they’re all looking for an off ramp. This is, at a minimum, definitely movement from the status quo, and that’s good. It must reflect internal polling that’s telling them that the American people don’t want more war. Much better will be when some mainstream politician starts calling for accountability from the Deep State. Will Trump go there? These initial rhetorical gambits by senators may give him backing for a more forceful platform at the convention.
Not a lawyer, but the money laundering through seem pretty illegal. If a bank did it, they would be in huge problems. Same with individuals trying to hide over $10,000 in transactions.
I wonder how many elections this has influenced…

I'm guessing the NYT article "The Spy War" took the hot air out of the Senators, Turtle, and the Zhou meeting (gang of 4) from a day or two back with regards to their intent to fund Ukraine forever.
