The scope of Israel’s defeat in Gaza will be the subject of discussion for weeks to come, if not longer. That this is a major defeat, however, is beyond doubt. Moreover, the saga is not over. Megatron sets out an initial assessment concisely, but the blowback against the US will also become more apparent between now and the November election. Nor is anything like peace guaranteed.

Israeli Defense Minister:
"Hamas is no longer a military organization in Gaza as a result of our intensive operations"
This is how the defeat in Gaza is now justified, which Netanyahu himself admitted a few days ago that if Israel withdraws, it loses the war.
Israel lost the war in Gaza, despite destroying it completely and massacring over 13,000 children.
Hamas still holds Gaza, and Netanyahu's political goals have also not been achieved.
Huge losses in military personnel and military equipment, the northern part of the country was evacuated, the economy was crippled.
The myth of Israel's invincible army has been completely shattered.
And all this is just getting started, Hezbollah is barely scratched. Iran is moving to take the initiative.

The point about the northern part of Israel still being evacuated of its Israeli population is particularly significant. Hezbollah continues to enforce what is, effectively, a DMZ within Israel’s borders—a potent challenge to Israeli claims of sovereignty. This is only the beginning, in all likelihood. And a major defeat for the US, thanks to the stupid backing of Zionist extremism.
There are many dark posts on Zerohedge et al about how remorselessly efficient the global "elites" are in their dastardly plans for world domination. The Netanyahu debacle gives hope that they are just clowns after all. Evil, destructive, psychopathic clowns, but clowns nevertheless. I guess Jared Kushner can give up any hopes of building those Gaza-by-the-Sea condos.
Intriguing and informative posts Mark. It seems we’re the specialists in “blowback” as foreign policy, as once again our bumbling incoherence and roiling hypocrisy and greed have caused the three great powers to align: first Russia, skirting sanctions and finding support in China to grow its economy and military; China - collaborating w Russia (big trip to see Xi this week by Lavrov); and now Iran, the adult in the room, advising Zhou to cut it out or else…wonder what awaits us in the So China Sea or can we pull back from more blowback?
