The alarms are for the Dems. Lets start with a brief quote from a Jonathan Turley article (more on him later), because it’s also bad news for anyone thinking they can easily change opinion through the MSM:
Poll: Majority of Americans Distrust in the Media
A poll from the American Press Institute and The Associated Press-NORC Center has found that a majority of Americans are extremely worried or very concerned about bias in the media and the reporting of false or misleading information. Only 48% of Republicans and 34% of independents still receive their news from national news outlets and expressed the greatest trust of the media.
The poll shows that 47% of Americans have serious concern that news outlets would report information that has not been confirmed or verified, and 44% worry that accurate information will be presented in a way that favors one side or another.
…
The result is that about half of Americans rely on social media for their primary source of news. That is why it is not surprising that the censorship of social media has been a priority among many liberal groups. The effort is to eliminate sources of information and regulate what citizens see and read.
Why, you might ask, is trust in the anti-conservative MSM so high—relatively speaking—among Republicans? I suspect a recent study by Pew Research tells the story—all you need to do is look at the picture:
At a glance you can easily see that Republicans skew much older. Meaning, they’re more set in their ways, more tied to legacy MSM news, and so less likely to get their news from alternative media. There’s nothing reassuring in this for Republicans, because they need Independents—and lots of them—if they want to win. Pew breaks this down into D/R so Indies don’t show up separately, but studies have shown that Independents skew younger than Republicans. That means they’re preponderantly getting more of their news and views from alternative media. Republicans need to wake up from the delusion that they can somehow fool Indies with the same old song and dance that still works with oldsters.
But neither is there any comfort in this for the embattled Dems (latest polls have Trump +10-12). Studies have shown that a surprising number of even young Dems also take in conservative or alternative media sites in addition to the usual liberal sites. Dem talking points aren’t getting the reflexive traction that they used to get. The results can be seen from this article at The Hill:
Young Democrats warn Biden he must quickly change course
Young Democratic voters are sounding the alarm and warning President Biden that his reelection bid could be in jeopardy if he doesn’t change course on the issues that matter most to them, including the war in Gaza.
While they have soured on Biden on a range of issues from cost of living to climate issues, the rash of protests at college campuses around the country has been the latest point of contention with the president.
“He will lose the election if he decides to roll the dice and assumes that Gaza isn’t at the top of minds right now,” said Elise Joshi, the executive director of Gen-Z for Change —which was once run under the name TikTok for Biden.
Joshi added that the last six months have seen “an increasing pace of concern” about the president.
The crisis in Gaza has been a tipping point for many young voters, and some polls have shown support dissolving for Biden.
Last month, a Harvard Youth Poll showed Biden’s support from voters ages 18-29 had slipped from about 60 percent in 2020 down to 45 percent.
A CNN poll last weekend also revealed that Biden was 11 percentage points behind Trump in a head-to-head match-up among young voters.
Some say Biden isn’t addressing some of the issues that matter most to young voters.
The rest of the article includes fairly lengthy commentary from a “climate acitivist”—talking about how important Gaza is to young voters. This is confirmation of the influence of alternative media. I mean, you know these young people—unlike older Republicans—aren’t getting their “news” on Gaza from the MSM, which has put out memos mandating pro-Israel “news” coverage. Zhou’s pathetic attempts at gaslighting won’t change those young voters who are getting their news from less biased sources. The problem for the Dems is that, while Zhou owns Gaza and genocide as an issue, he’s not going to get those more pro-genocide older Republicans to switch to the Dem side. He has to win back those younger voters, and that won’t be easy. As for the young voters who are turned off by Genocide Zhou, some may switch to Trump for various reasons (the economy), while more may simply not vote or could go the Third Party route as a protest. Junior seems to be losing that cohort of young voters, but there’s still Jill Stein out there. She managed to get herself arrested at Washington U. in St. Louis, thus establishing her cred with young voters.
Did I mention that this is also most likely bad news for The Israel Lobby, as well? Yes, there are any number of Zionist web sites pushing the standard line, but those sites largely target the pro-Israel choir—”conservatives”. Those sites aren’t going to make a dent in the numbers of younger voters whose big issue is Gaza. Moreover, the article at The Hill also strongly suggests that this is not an issue that will disappear over the summer. Siding with The Israel Lobby is just not a good idea any longer.
More bad news for the Dems.
Catholics' support swings for Trump over Biden by significant margin: poll
Hispanic Catholics saw the most drastic shift towards the GOP compared to a similar poll from Pew in 2020
Right. It’s the subhead that’s really scary for Dems. Older Catholics, and especially church goers, were one of Trump’s most reliable base groups in the past and are certain to go for Trump again. For all the usual reasons. One bishop recently called Zhou “stupid” (he did try to walk that back). Another—the cardinal in DC, a black—called Zhou a “cafeteria Catholic”—not a compliment. Hispanic Catholics? The “drastic shift” among Hispanic Catholics that Pew is seeing is really all about the shift in the Hispanic demographic overall. My guess is that economics may be the big driver in the Hispanic shift, but whatever:
Catholics in the U.S. have swung dramatically against President Biden in recent years, now boasting a significant statistical break towards his GOP challenger.
Pew Research released on Apr. 30 a report exploring support for presidential candidates sorted by religious affiliation.
The poll found that 55% of Catholics support or lean towards supporting former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head against Biden.
Conversely, only 43% of Catholics support Biden in the same one-on-one pairing.
The 12% margin of support in favor of Trump marks a significant shift from 2020, when he held an extremely narrow lead — 50% to 49%.
Biden currently leads among Hispanic Catholics with a narrow 49%-47% split, but the close contest marks a major shift rightward for the demographic. In 2020, a similar poll from Pew Research found Hispanic Catholics preferred Biden to Trump with a staggering 67%-26% split.
That’s two major demographics—young people and Hispanics—that demand extreme attention from the Dems, with chances of success not looking that great. I’d very much like to see some good data regarding the Black and Asian votes.
Now, regarding Turley. I’ve made no secret that Turley is one of my go-to guys for constitutional legal analysis. Turley has been sniping at the protestors all week. Yesterday he made a complete fool of himself. No, it wasn’t faulty legal analysis. He utterly debased himself in his comments about the anti-genocide protestors, and his dumbass comments got the expected rousing reception from the Amen Corner. Here’s a typical example:
The country of Iran has apparently offered scholarships to any college protesters who have been expelled over their anti-Israel protests.
We should hope that at least some of these students take them up on the offer.
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley had some fun with this, noting that it could represent a real opportunity for these students to learn something about the world.
In essence, Turley is saying: If you don’t like America supporting genocide, why don’t you move to Iran! How’s that for a non sequitur? And I assure you that Turley, no dummy, was fully aware that that was a non sequitur. In fact it reminds me of the old Cold War refrain, If you don’t like it here then go to Russia! I’ll bet his young law students were less than impressed by this, especially because it comes from a guy who bills himself as a free speech absolutist.
The fact of the matter is that Turley likes his MSM gigs, and he knows that if he wants to keep them he’ll need to kiss Israel Lobby tuchus. And so he did—in public. And smiled while doing it. Once you line up on that side there’s no depth of self degradation that won’t sooner or later be demanded of you, as he just learned.
The calculus by the WH seems to be that they are losing young voters so it's time for more student loan "forgiveness" (and hope that taxpayers don't notice) and time to legalize pot. Oh, and more abortion.
In my (swing) state, the ads I'm seeing are about 2 things. The at risk Democrat Senator is running endless ads touting $35 insulin. And blaming Trump for "taking away abortion rights". Even though abortion is legal in the state through 24 weeks. And that is written into the state constitution. That isn't stopping the Democrats from putting a proposal on the ballot to extend abortion to 28 weeks in hopes the issue will drive more Democrats to the polls.
If voters fall for this nonsense, we'll end up with world war, more inflation and open borders forever. But I guess we'll be able to smoke weed, kill our babies and have the government pick up the tab for the consequences of eating all those snacks that weed drove us to? Good times.
Kudos Mark for calling out a shill.
