Now It Can Be Said?
The Dems must be confident that they have this election in the bag because the NYT yesterday published an op-ed that ran under the title "When Trump Was Right and Many Democrats Wrong." This is the same NYT that not many months ago ran it's editorial page editor out of his job on a rail for the thought crime of publishing an op-ed by US Senator Tom Cotton that called for using the military to suppress the Dem rioters in our major cities.
When was Trump right and the Dems were wrong? We could try counting the ways, or just go with the one example that Nicholas Kristoff--Dem dinosaur--offers:
Some things are true even though President Trump says them. Trump has been demanding for months that schools reopen, and on that he seems to have been largely right. Schools, especially elementary schools, do not appear to have been major sources of coronavirus transmission, and remote learning is proving to be a catastrophe for many low-income children."
"Yet America is shutting schools — New York City announced Wednesday that it was closing schools in the nation’s largest school district — even as it allows businesses like restaurants and bars to operate. What are our priorities?"
Joseph Wulfsohn comments , noting that, for Kristoff and the NYT, it was of course Trump--even while speaking the truth--who was the one that was really at fault:
Kristof complained how the debate over keeping schools open was "politicized" after Trump "blustered" in July about schools needing to open while "trying to project normalcy" while "too many Democrats instinctively lined up on the other side" and noting how then-Democratic nominee Joe Biden, as well as Democratic mayors and governors, expressed "extreme caution."
As in, Who could really blame Dems for "instinctively" inflicting a catastrophe on "low-income children" after Trump "blustered" the truth? How could you think that Dems themselves would politicize a pandemic? And, anyway, how could you expect us to let a crisis go to waste without deriving political benefit from it? It's our due--because history is on our side! The ends justify the means!
We all know, of course, that "low-income children" is simply a codeword for Black/POC children. We also know that behind Kristoff's excuse for Dems inflicting this catastrophe on minority children--precisely the demographic that most desperately needs to be in school, rather than shooting each other on the streets--is the reality that Black Lives DON'T Matter. Not to the radical Left they don't--which is now the mainstream of the Dem party--and not to the Tech Giants. Big Tech will be rewarded for their complicity in the election scam with an Executive Order allowing them to import low wage but well educated Asians to do the work our own children will be unqualified for. Those Black lives only count for Dems and their Big Media allies as political pawns for the purpose of ousting Trump and, ultimately, all dissenting voices from the public square. The catastrophic collateral damage will be, as usual, pushed off on Republicans: 'If Trump hadn't "blustered" when he spoke the truth we woulda done the right thing--so don't blame us!'
Nor will it be easy to do the right thing, now that the wrong thing has become a way of life for the Left. That's how it always works. It seems a powerful Left constituency is not interested in reopening the schools. This week in Chicago the School Board set a timetable for opening schools in February--after the anticipated Biden inauguration. But in less than 24 hours the Teachers Union was saying: 'Not so fast! We don't know whether we'll feel safe by then!' "Feel safe" constitutes a negotiating version of moving goal posts. You can be sure that reopening the schools will cost the City--and above all the taxpayers--dearly.
