It seems to be increasingly likely that the revelations about Milley’s stunning insubordination--colluding with hostile foreign powers behind the president’s back--are simply Milley taking credit for his actions. All the theorizing and speculation by me and by others is based in nostalgia for an older constitutional order. The Zhou regime is standing behind Milley in no uncertain terms, apparently because they think that this attempt at continuing the Orange Man Bad narrative will somehow, counter intuitively, persuade the American public that they’re really better off now:
“I have great confidence in General Milley,” Biden responded to reporters Wednesday, moments after press secretary Jen Psaki appeared to excuse Milley’s alleged conduct as acceptable in the “context of this period and time in history” given that he did so while Trump was in his final days as commander-in-chief and amid the backdrop of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
Arguing against that self delusional notion, the latest Quinnipiac poll shows Hispanic support for Zhou cratering to 38%. That would tend to confirm Bin Laden’s “strong horse” theory.
The national degradation continues apace.
Laura I. has a lawyer on now (about this Milley stuff), to be followed by Greenwald (right away?).
If you stand back and view both sides on this subject you'll note that the constitutional crowd jeers are getting run over by the *pin a metal on this guy* clan.
I do agree with the jest of what Mark is saying... "simply Milley taking credit for his actions"
He's bragging about it as if underhandedly mucking around in foreign policy in the last days of an adminstration was some war stopping event... Oh brother!
