This can't possibly be what most Dems had in mind for Impeachment Theater.
UPDATE 1: Thomas Lifson has been all over this . It turns out--will anyone be surprised to learn this?--that the Dem mantra shift from Quid Pro Quo to Bribery was dictated by ... focus groups! That from an impeccable Dem source :
“The shift came after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee conducted focus groups in key House battlegrounds in recent weeks, testing messages related to impeachment. Among the questions put to participants was whether ‘quid pro quo,’ ‘extortion’ or ‘bribery’ was a more compelling description of Trump’s conduct. According to two people familiar with the results, which circulated among Democrats this week, the focus groups found ‘bribery’ to be most damning.”
Impeachment by focus group--what a concept!
UPDATE 2: David Marcus at The Federalist weighs in, also citing (like Tucker) CNN--Democrats Concede Their Impeachment Argument Is Failing . Brief excerpt re the failure of Dem "messaging":
[I]mpeachment charges are kind of like jokes, the more you have to explain them, the less effective they are.
To make matter worse for Democrats, not only are they failing to move the needle among Americans, they are struggling to make them care at all.
Right. If you have to run focus groups to find a way to convince people that somehow something wrong was done, you're in trouble. You're losing.
UPDATE 3: Don Surber doubles down on the theme of "losing":
In Rules for Radicals, Saul Alinsky wrote, "A good tactic is one your people enjoy. A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag."

Democrat voters invested two years in the Russian Collusion Hoax ....
Failure has consequences, and Democrats are paying. ...
It's not that real Americans have a short attention span, it is that we are not obsessed with bringing President Trump down. We elected him.
Once again, a media sort faulted the Democrats for not offering a compelling story. To the Washington press corps, it's a story. The truth does not matter.
To the American people, though, the truth does matter. And the truth is this is another Russian Collusion Hoax. ...
Democrats fear the reaper of public opinion.
Breitbart News reported, "Democrats have been scrambling following Wednesday’s lackluster public impeachment hearing, changing the focus of their impeachment narrative to 'attempted' crimes after Republican lawmakers largely decimated their weak impeachment case.
...
"'It was a total disaster for us,' one senior House Democrat aide told Breitbart News.
Democrats are actually test marketing accusations against Trump to see which one sticks. You couldn't make this up.https://t.co/bJe0yRodbQ
