Some of this commentary strikes me as pretty shrewd. The bottom line is that Israel is largely powerless to harm Iran by conventional means—only by going nuclear. Iran, on the other hand, has the capability to largely disarm Israel using non-nuclear, i.e., conventional, means. This is a decisive advantage. The Iranian perspective is provided by Patarames, who responds to pro-Israel tweets:

U.S. and Israeli officials said that three waves of strikes took place. The first waves focused on Iranian air defense system and the second an third waves focused on missile and drone bases and productions sites

As expected Israel avoided irrational actions of attacking Iran's energy, oil or nuclear infrastructure their PSYOPS initially indicated

 Important observations of the -strike:
* No bright impact flashes observed in Tehran like e.g. during True Promise 2 in Tel Aviv, at least not in any significant quantity.
In line with a very limited air-launched ballistic-missile attack (Air-Lora/Golden-Horizon)
* There are no known missile bases or important sites in Ilam province. Hence target there was likely a minor drone base.
Since its a border province, a strike by stand-off weapons can be easily performed (Rocks?)
* The same conditions apply to Khuzestan province, also bordering Iraq.
But there Iran has at least one ballistic missile base and an air-force base.
But again not missile production infrastructure of any importance.

#Iran's Air Defense headquarter: #Israel conducted strikes against several military sites in provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam early this morning. While our air defense system successfully intercepted and countered the attacks, some areas sustained limited damage.

Israel bombed vital production sites of surface-to-surface missiles based on very accurate intel supplied by army's Intel Branch, Israeli source says; according to current estimates, IDF aimed to completely destroy Iran’s ability to produce these missiles, @ynetalerts reports.

Iran's missile production infrastructure is so vast and partially built into tunnel complexes;
 That this ynetalerts news is certainly just poor PR

Today Israel successfully demonstrated to Iran
* That it posses a tactical nuclear weapon delivery system that can strike deep into Iran with pin-point accuracy
That was the essence of this operation

To understand the context:
The other nuclear-weapon delivery system that could successfully penetrate Tehran's air-defense at the very onset of a conflict is the Jericho-2 ballistic-missile
* Jericho-2 is not MIRV'ed to strike critical parts of deep tunnel complexes. Its not accurate enough
* Non-MIRV'ed Jericho-2 can't perform evasive maneuvers to defeat ballistic-missile defense systems

Unfortunately the chances for a de-escalation are now almost certainly impossible

Iran can deny all it wants. Israel knows exactly what it bombed. Tehran knows what was hit. More importantly, other countries in the region know what happened. Arab leaders watched a helpless Iran attacked at home for hours, with zero ability to stop it.

One conclusion from tonight’s strike: Israel can attack strategic Iranian military assets whenever it wants & Iran will claim nothing happened. Iran has no ability to stop it & minimal desire to respond seriously. It will just take the hit & mostly focus on PR. x.com/IsraelRadar_co…

Soon satellite images will solve the mystery
(Oh yeah, and I doubt anyone was under the impression that Iran has a high capability to counter ballistic missiles, even small-size Israel does not)

It may sound hyperbolic to some but Iran:
* has a credible [conventional] capability to largely disarm Israel
* Should a several day long military exchange occur

Many short-thinking folks got the key message of the (130k view) tweet below wrong
The conclusion is Israel lacks conventional firepower to enable its initial threat of "devastating response"
Its retaliation was a capability display to that its nuclear option is credible...

 If Israel had indeed struck any meaningful targets in last night's strikes, we would have seen some persuasive evidence of it by now.
I increasingly suspect they encountered something they did not expect in the very first wave, and it discombobulated their whole plan.
Never would I have ever thought that Russia and Iran would be voices of restraint, seeking peace. Are the US and Israel wise enough to accept this and save face?
I'm not holding my breath.
