Once upon a time, the "contemporary scientific consensus" was to keep T1 diabetics alive as long as possible on a spartan diet of toast & butter. Banting & Best changed that by isolating injectible insulin from the pancreases of animals. I am quite grateful, alive & thriving almost 35+ yrs post my diabetes dx, but ok Gov Einstein... smh
